Mules Finish Fifth In Capital Classic To Open Hardcourt Season Getting two wins on the weekend, and playing competitively in their two losses, Scott McElravy’s Fairfield Mules finished fifth in the 2023 Capital Classic, held in Lawrenceville and Red Hill. The Mules opened their season against state-ranked Lawrenceville, falling 48-37, Friday afternoon. They returned Friday night and played a “non-tournament” game, beating Grayville, 66-55. The Bison were a late addition to the tournament after Mt. Carmel dropped out due to playing in the 3A football championship game. They left the Mule Barn Monday with a 4-1 record and fresh off a 38-29 loss to Tonya Conrad’s Fairfield Lady Mules. Fairfield got 29 points and nine rebounds from senior star Rylee Edwards, who matched the Wildcats’ scoring total by herself. Mules’ Season Ends With First Round Road Loss In Greenville A year ago, Justin Townsend’s Fairfield Mules took a long bus ride north and won a playoff game they were not supposed to, beating one of the South Central Conference’s co-champions in North Mac. Mules, Lady Mules Both Advance To Decatur Cross County Sectional Hosting a Class 1A cross country Regional, Justin Sanders’ Fairfield Mules and Lady Mules both have advanced to the Decatur St. Teresa Sectional with top four finishes on their home course.
