FCHS Volleyball vs. Richland Co., 8-21-23

It was not exactly a smooth, clean start to the season for Chet Snyder’s Fairfield Lady Mules Monday when they hosted Richland County. Yet, they were able to play flat for long stretches and still come out with a 25-18, 25-22 win against the larger school. The Lady Tigers hung tough with Fairfield for stretches of both sets. They never led after 11-9 in the first set but was still tied at 13 before the Lady Mules ripped off six straight points. FCHS Golf, 8-16-23

The Fairfield Mules made their home golf debut Wednesday at the Fairfield Public Golf Couse, hosting both Edwards County and Eldorado. Edwards County, in their first season of a revived program, had the individual medalist on the day, with Cy Nelson carding a 42 to lead all golfers. The Lions won the meet with a team score of 188. Eldorado was second with 211 and the host Mules were third with 223. Avery Gardner led Fairfield with a 43, one stroke off the medalist pace. HamCo Heat 2023

CrossFit HamCo held their HamCo Heat 2023 competition Saturday in McLeansboro, with Wayne County well represented, including the RX Mens champions, Luke Ahlfield and Andrew Atteberry. For Ahlfield, a three-time CrossFit Regional qualifier, it was a return to the sport after several years off while pursuing other strength sports goals. They were in second place going into the final event but were able to win both parts of the finals to take the crown.
