Mt. Rushmore Of Favorite Athletes

Rickey Henderson, Ronnie Lott and Marcus Allen. For as long as I can remember, these have been my three favorite athletes of all time. There is zero debate on my top three. The order maybe, but not the top three. These posters and jersey are hanging up in my new office. The Rickey poster is new, but there is plenty of Rickey memorabilia under it with 30-40 years of age on it. I’ve had that Ronnie poster since high school, what was, ahem, 30 years ago. And the Marcus jersey was a gift I received a year or two after … Continue reading Mt. Rushmore Of Favorite Athletes

My Masters Bets

I don’t bet a ton of golf. Or atleast, that is what I thought until I started looking at just how many bets I have down on the Masters already. The Masters is the most bet golf event of the year, and apparently I am no exception there. So, with that in mind, here is what all I have in pocket already. I also threw together one Draftkings lineup: Corey Conners, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Patrick Reed, Russell Henley, Scottie Scheffler and Sahith Theegala. Here is to hoping Scheffler does not wind up withdrawing with his wife expecting. 4/13 Update: Continue reading My Masters Bets

The KenPom Criteria Qualifiers For National Champions

3/25/24 Pre-Sweet 16 Checkin Checking in after the opening weekend, and all six of the identified teams have survived, and five of the six are favorites in the Sweet 16 round. If you do the math on those chances to win, that adds up to a 76.5 percent chance the system identified the champion pre-tournament. I have been doing moneyline rollovers on all six of these teams, instead of taking futures bets on any of them. I’ll likely continue to do that for all six at least one more round. 3/18/24 A few weeks back, I wrote about the teams … Continue reading The KenPom Criteria Qualifiers For National Champions

KenPom’s Minimum Qualifying Standards

With football nearly in the rearview, my focus has turned to basketball, and for me that is mostly college basketball. Yes, the NBA is a better product, but for some reason I always gravitate to watching college more. I can’t explain it. The eye is always toward the March Madness tournament. And who can win it. I’m a fan of KenPom, TeamRankings, Torvik, all of it. One of the things I look at heading in is teams who meet the minimum required rankings of past national champions. Basically, “no team ranked lower than <this> has ever won the title. Criteria … Continue reading KenPom’s Minimum Qualifying Standards

A Look Back At Take The Points’ Division Bets

In the preseason, the four members of Take The Points each picked a Best Bet for each division in the NFL. One bet per division, could be any future bet–player totals, wins, awards, etc. There were some short odds and some long odds, a good mix. With the end of the regular season, it was time to look back and see how we did. The advantage of being the guy with the blog is I get to post them when I did well. If you clicked on this post, you probably already knew I did, or they may not have … Continue reading A Look Back At Take The Points’ Division Bets
