Bittersweet 16 For Lady Mules; Season Ends In Sectional Loss Sweet 16 runs are typically, well, pretty sweet. Only, the Fairfield Lady Mules had expectations for higher things this year, making their Sectional championship loss Wednesday more bitter than sweet. Mules’ Season Ends With First Round Road Loss In Greenville A year ago, Justin Townsend’s Fairfield Mules took a long bus ride north and won a playoff game they were not supposed to, beating one of the South Central Conference’s co-champions in North Mac. On Saturday, they traveled to Greenville to try to pull off the same against this year’s South Central Conference champions in the 9-0 Comets. They were unable to repeat the feat, with the Comets flying past the Mules, 35-12. Mules, Lady Mules Both Advance To Decatur Cross County Sectional Hosting a Class 1A cross country Regional, Justin Sanders’ Fairfield Mules and Lady Mules both have advanced to the Decatur St. Teresa Sectional with top four finishes on their home course. The top seven teams advance out of Regionals. The Lady Mules placed third, while the Mules placed fourth. Robinson won the girls team title with 41 points, 10 less than second-place St. Anthony. Lady Mules Win Regional With Business-Like Approach Chet Snyder’s Fairfield Lady Mules entered Thursday night’s Regional championship knowing they already had two victories over their opponents under their belts. For the Mules, it was mostly about handling the pressure that comes with being a heavy favorite. Handle it they did, rolling to a 25-14, 25-13 win over the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces in McLeansboro. Mules Take Care Of Business To Earn Playoff Spot; At Greenville Needing a win to make the playoffs, the Fairfield Mules simply needed to take care of business in a rare Thursday Night Lights game, hosting the two-win Edwards County Lions. Rivalry Game Goes To Cardinals In Another Three-Set Battle For Mules The Fairfield Lady Mules have had the NCOE Cardinals’ number in recent years, dominating a one-sided rivalry between the top two teams in the Deep South coach’s volleyball poll. NCOE got them in the Fairfield Kick-Off Tournament last year, but otherwise it has been all Chet Snyder’s Lady Mules in recent years.
