Mules Even Record With Road Win At Eldorado; Sesser Clash On Deck Despite jumping out to a 24-6 halftime lead, the Fairfield Mules struggled to put away the host Eldorado Eagles Friday night. The Eagles outscored the Mules in the second half, but when push came to shove, the Fairfield defense made the stops they needed to preserve a 32-18 Fairfield win. Lady Mules Handle Visiting Indians In Midweek County Clash In between weekend tournaments, Chet Snyder’s Fairfield Lady Mules hosted county rival Wayne City Thursday, rolling to a 25-9, 25-9 victory. Fresh off winning their own tournament Saturday, and with the Richland County Tournament on deck two days later, Snyder’s squad was able to stay focused on the task at hand, swinging away against Lamar Choate’s Lady Indians. Lady Mules Blank Aces In Tennis With a shutout win over Mt. Carmel, the Fairfield Lady Mules tennis squad picked up another dual win, beating the Aces 9-0. Fairfield swept singles play in straight sets, needing just one tiebreaker. That came in a win by Madeline Foster at the number two spot. Not A Repeat, But A Repeat: Lady Mules Knock Off NCOE For Title For the fifth straight year, Chet Snyder’s Fairfield Lady Mules and Jaclyn Melton’s NCOE Lady Cardinals met in the championship of the Fairfield Kickoff Classic, and for the fourth time in those five meetings, the host Mule gals came out victorious Saturday, winning the championship match, 25-21, 25-20. Jennette Leads Mules To Team Title At Wickham Invite; Lady Mules Second Hosting their first meet of the year, the Fairfield Mules won the boys’ team title in the Tom Wickham Invitational, while the Lady Mules took second. Sophomore Grant Jennette set a new meet record with a winning time of 18 minutes, 51 seconds, following up on a strong freshman track season in the spring. Mules Measure Up Short In Season Opener With Freeburg Midgets In what turned into a war of attrition, the school with more than 700 students was able to outlast the school with 400-plus on a hot Friday night that featured a lot of penalties and even more cramping taking players out of the game for stretches, or more. It was not exactly a smooth, clean start to the season for Chet Snyder’s Fairfield Lady Mules Monday when they hosted Richland County. Yet, they were able to play flat for long stretches and still come out with a 25-18, 25-22 win against the larger school. The Lady Tigers hung tough with Fairfield for stretches of both sets. FCHS Golf, 8-16-23
The Fairfield Mules made their home golf debut Wednesday at the Fairfield Public Golf Couse, hosting both Edwards County and Eldorado. Edwards County, in their first season of a revived program, had the individual medalist on the day, with Cy Nelson carding a 42 to lead all golfers. The Lions won the meet with a team score of 188. Eldorado was second with 211 and the host Mules were third with 223. Avery Gardner led Fairfield with a 43, one stroke off the medalist pace.
