Mules Take Care Of Business Against Winless Vienna

The Fairfield Mules’ steamroll through the Black Diamond Conference continued Friday with a 53-6 demolishing of the winless Vienna Eagles. The Mules scored 33 points in the first quarter, started the running clock in the second quarter and played shortened quarters in the second half. The Eagles only roster 17 players this year as they start the rebuilding process under first year coach Nick Bocook. The Mules went through something similar when head coach Justin Townsend took over in 2001. His first year was the last of four straight 1-8 seasons. That was a lifetime ago, with most on the … Continue reading Mules Take Care Of Business Against Winless Vienna

Dominant D The Mules have allowed just eight points total in six games, but they took it to another level Friday. Mules Score 40 Straight After Giving Up First Points Of Year

For the last couple of weeks, the dominant talk around the Fairfield Mules has been “the streak”—the four straight games without allowing a point to start the season. It dominated the conversation enough it was becoming a distraction. Distraction no more, as the Carmi-White County Bulldogs scored on their opening drive of the game Friday, and took an 8-0 lead on Justin Townsends’s Mules. The Mules, however, responded with 40 unanswered points and improved to 5-0 with a 40-8 win at the Train Yard. “It was inevitable. Eventually, someone is going to score on you. Justin Townsend’s Fairfield Mules put up 42 on them Friday at the Train Yard, while the defense of the home squad kept their shutout streak going with their fourth in a row to start the season. Mules Move to 3-0 With Third Straight Shutout

Sometimes, stingy can be a positive. Case in point, the Fairfield Mules’ defense. For the third straight week to open the season, Justin Townsend’s Mules did not allow a point and the Mule Train kept rolling with a 36-0 road win in Chester. Fairfield moved to 3-0 with the win. And while the stinginess is a continuation of a trend this year, they can add greediness to the repertoire as well, as the defense got in on the scoring act with two defensive touchdowns and a safety on the night. That helped supplement what is a pedestrian offering for this … Continue reading Mules Move to 3-0 With Third Straight Shutout

Freshmen Mules Maul Tigers In Olney

Traveling to Olney for nonconference action Thursday, the freshman Fairfield Mules football squad moved to 2-0 with a 28-14 triumph over the Tigers of Richland County. Fairfield scored the first 22 points of the game, holding the host offense in check until late in the third quarter. Fairfield took the opening kickoff and drove to the Richland County seven-yard line before fumbling. That just delayed their first score, which came early in the second when quarterback Eric Rodgers (not Joe, not Joe, not Joe) found a streaking Jonah Easton in the middle of the field behind the safety for a … Continue reading Freshmen Mules Maul Tigers In Olney
