The Fairfield Mules’ steamroll through the Black Diamond Conference continued Friday with a 53-6 demolishing of the winless Vienna Eagles. The Mules scored 33 points in the first quarter, started the running clock in the second quarter and played shortened quarters in the second half. The Eagles only roster 17 players this year as they start the rebuilding process under first year coach Nick Bocook. Wrapping up an undefeated Black Diamond Conference season, Chet Snyder’s Fairfield Lady Mules knocked off visiting Carmi Thursday on Senior Night at the Mule Barn. Fairfield won in straight sets, 25-20, 26-24, fighting off challenges in both sets after early leads in both. That moved the Mules to 10-0 in the BDC-East, giving them the title outright for the first time since 2009. They have won conference 10 times since joining the BDC 17 years ago. Lady Mules Tennis Edges Wildcats, 5-4

The Fairfield Lady Mules tennis team picked up another team win Tuesday at Lakeside Park, knocking off visiting Salem, 5-4. Salem won the top two singles matches, but Fairfield swept the other four to take a 4-2 lead heading into doubles play. Brittany Titzer, Karigan Harvey, Alexis Worthey and Ella Thomas all had victories, playing to 10 games. They combined to win by 30 games. Conrad Advances To State Golf Tournament

Fairfield senior Maverick Conrad shot a 76 Monday in the West Frankfort Sectional, qualifying for the State Tournament in Bloomington, while junior teammate Noah McElravy missed advancing by one stroke. Carmi won the team title with a 301, becoming the first Bulldog team to win a golf sectional since winning five straight from 1975 to 1979. Scoring 26 points in the first quarter, Justin Townsend’s Fairfield Mules won their 27th straight Black Diamond Conference game and clinched their fourth straight BDC title Friday, rolling to a 47-3 win over visiting Edwards County. The 27th straight regular season win in the closed conference gives the Mules a new league record, eclipsing the previous mark of 26 held by Johnston City. Oh My Hammy!: FCHS Alumni 7-on-7 Held Saturday Morning; Draws Three Teams

With Homecoming week wrapping up Saturday evening with the dance, the action returned to the field Saturday morning, with an alumni 7-on-7 passing tournament. Played for the first time, the event drew three teams, with an entry fee of $100 per team. The money will will go toward a scholarship for an FCHS senior, based entirely on need. Two of the squads had sponsorships, with Wabash General Hospital sponsoring one team, and La Fuente helping another with shirts. Mule Gals Tennis Takes Down Aces, 7-2

Sweeping doubles play, the Fairfield Lady Mules picked up a tennis tea win Monday, beating the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces, 7-2. The Mule gals won four of the six in singles play, then took all three in doubles action. The win avenges a 5-4 loss to Mt. Carmel in early September.
