Scoring 26 points in the first quarter, Justin Townsend’s Fairfield Mules won their 27th straight Black Diamond Conference game and clinched their fourth straight BDC title Friday, rolling to a 47-3 win over visiting Edwards County. The 27th straight regular season win in the closed conference gives the Mules a new league record, eclipsing the previous mark of 26 held by Johnston City. At 7-0, they also became the first team to win four straight conference championships since the BDC expanded in 2003. The record of five straight by Johnston City was set in the early 90s. Lady Mules Clinch Conference Title With Room To Spare

With wins over Johnston City and Hamilton County, the Fairfield Lady Mules have improved to 24-1 overall, and 7-0 in the Black Diamond-East, as Chet Snyder’s volleyball squad continues to roll along in their best start to a season ever. Oh My Hammy!: FCHS Alumni 7-on-7 Held Saturday Morning; Draws Three Teams

With Homecoming week wrapping up Saturday evening with the dance, the action returned to the field Saturday morning, with an alumni 7-on-7 passing tournament. Played for the first time, the event drew three teams, with an entry fee of $100 per team. The money will will go toward a scholarship for an FCHS senior, based entirely on need. Two of the squads had sponsorships, with Wabash General Hospital sponsoring one team, and La Fuente helping another with shirts. Mule Gals Tennis Takes Down Aces, 7-2

Sweeping doubles play, the Fairfield Lady Mules picked up a tennis tea win Monday, beating the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces, 7-2. The Mule gals won four of the six in singles play, then took all three in doubles action. The win avenges a 5-4 loss to Mt. Carmel in early September. Conrad, McElravy Advance To Golf Sectional

Fairfield golfers Maverick Conrad and Noah McElravy each have advanced to Sectional golf play, finishing in the top 10 individual advancers at the St. Anthony Regional in Effingham Monday. Conrad, a senior, finished 10th overall, shooting an 84 on the par-72 course at Effingham Country Club. McElravy, a junior, shot an 88 to finish 14th overall. The top 10 golfer not already on one of the three advancing teams also advance. The host Bulldogs won the Regional title with a combined 313. Carmi was second at 318 and Oblong was third at 355. With three straight road wins this week, Chet Snyder’s Fairfield Lady Mules have already eclipsed the 20-win mark, and have run their win streak to 13 straight. Aces Fairfield traveled to Mt. Carmel Monday for nonconference action against the former NEC rival Aces. Mt. Carmel caught them sleeping in the first set and sprung a 25-20 win on them. Lady Mules Tennis Hosts Triangular

The Fairfield Lady Mules hosted a tennis triangular Saturday at Lakeside Park, with Richland County and Marion both visiting town. The Lady Tigers edged Fairfield, 3-2, while Marion blanked them, 3-0. They did not play doubles matches against Marion. Against Richland County, Alexis Worthey won in singles play, beating Kira Daniel, 6-3, 6-4, in the number threes match. For the fifth time in six weeks, Fairfield football shut out their opponent, and in their most dominant fashion yet, as Justin Townsend’s Mules rolled to a 40-0 win at Hamilton County Friday. Lady Mules Tennis Nipped By Herrin; Fall To Flora

The Fairfield Lady Mules split singles play with the Herrin Lady Tigers Monday, but dropped two of three in doubles play to suffer a 5-4 loss. Lainie Milner, Brittany Titzer and Tegan Ruhl all picked up singles wins. Milner, playing in the top spot, won 10-3. In the number threes match, Titzer doubled up Jaylan Blake, 10-5.
