The Fairfield Lady Mules were doubled up Tuesday at home by visiting Carbondale, 6-3, in high school tennis action. Fairfield picked up two singles wins and one doubles win, with Karigan Harvey doubling up on victories. Harvey played in the number two singles slot and won a tiebreaker over Jessie Harper, 6-7, 6-1, 10-5. She then teamed with Brittany Titzer in doubles action for another tiebreaker win, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8, in the number two doubles match. McElravy Medals, Mules Master Aces

The Fairfield Mules picked up another duel golf win Tuesday afternoon, beating the host Mt.  Carmel Aces, 178-183. Junior Noah McElravy tied for medalist honors, shooting a 40 on the par-35 front nine. He tied Mt. Carmel’s Clayton Halbig for the low score on the day. McElravy had bogeys on six straight holes, two through seven, before sinking a birdie on eight. He shot par on holes one and nine. Lady Mules Off To Good Start With Home Tournament Victory

Chet Snyder’s Fairfield Lady Mules came into the year with lofty goals. Among them was winning all four of their regular season tournaments. One tournament down, goals still in tact. The Lady Mules went 5-0 Saturday in the Fairfield Mule Kickoff Tournament, avenging a rare summer loss in the championship by winning a three-set battle with NCOE, 25-12, 25-27, 25-23. Chet Snyder’s Fairfield Lady Mules are coming off a historic 31-9 season that included a school record for wins, and their first trip to the volleyball Super Sectional a year ago. In a rematch of a week nine clash last year to decide the conference championship, the Fairfield Mules opened up the season this year with a defensive display of power Friday night at the Train Yard, shutting out the Sesser-Valier-Waltonville Red Devils, 28-0. Competing in Olney Wednesday, Coach Brent Sutton’s Fairfield Mules finished third as a team in the four-team match, while senior Maverick Conrad finished in a three-way tie for low score on the day. Conrad tied Charleston’s Taylor Drake and Richland County’s Mitchell Tolliver with a 39. Drake hit a triple bogey on the first hole, but shot pars on seven of the eight other holes. Tigers Sweep Cross Country Opener In Fairfield

The Fairfield Mules hosted the Tom Wickham Invitational Tuesday afternoon, changing locations for the annual invitational this year. The Richland County Tigers were just fine with that, as they took both individual and team titles on the day. After running for the past couple of decades at Leo French Park, the Mules moved the meet to Southwest Park, meaning the winners of each race would have new course records. The Fairfield Mules won a four-team match in McLeansboro Monday, nipping the host Hamilton County Foxes on a tiebreaker. The top four for each squad combined for a 177 team score, but the Mules had five golfers shoot 50 or below to win the tiebreaker by five strokes. The Mt. The Fairfield Mules golf squad was the first FCHS athletes to get their season underway this school year, with one tournament and two duels already under their belt.
