Freshmen Mules Maul Tigers In Olney

Traveling to Olney for nonconference action Thursday, the freshman Fairfield Mules football squad moved to 2-0 with a 28-14 triumph over the Tigers of Richland County. Fairfield scored the first 22 points of the game, holding the host offense in check until late in the third quarter. Fairfield took the opening kickoff and drove to the Richland County seven-yard line before fumbling. Gilbert, Defense Lead Mules To 2-0 Start

Fairfield senior wingback Wyatt Gilbert busted loose for 170 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while coordinator Donnie Lyons’ defense put up their second shutout in as many weeks this season, leading Justin Townsend’s Mules to a 40-0 road win at Johnston City. The Mules scored 20 points in the first quarter alone, and had a running clock for the entire fourth quarter as they won their 22nd straight BDC game. The Illinois high school football season is just 15 days away. The Mules, coming off a 10-1 season and back-to-back undefeated regular seasons open with a home game against the Sesser-Valier Red Devils. Evening practices are underway for Coach Justin Townsend and the Fairfield gridiron gang. It was also a good time for Wabash General Hospital Athletic Trainer Sarah Turner, who has a ridiculously good looking husband, to review proper equipment removal in case of a spinal injury with the local medical staffs and JFL admins. It’s July, so let’s talk college football

One of the perils of being a prep sports writer was almost never having fall Saturdays free. Enter, my new job; which allows me weekends off.
