Back In The Kitchen, Where I Belong

My wife likes to joke that I lured her in with my cooking. At least, I think she is joking. I use to cook quite often. But a promotion last year ate up a lot of free time (which led to eating out more often). This happened right before we got married. She stepped up, cooking more often than I did for the first year of our marriage. It wasn’t like that before we got married. Now that I’m free more evenings, I’m trying to step my game up once again. So, that means, hopefully, you will be seeing more … Continue reading Back In The Kitchen, Where I Belong

Nostalgic Debauchery And The Neighbors Who Get Me

So I was sitting up at the Illinois-Nebraska tailgate last week when I got a text from a neighbor. He was in a relative’s garage and found some old beer cans. He said they made him think of me and wanted to know if I was interested in them. Let’s gloss over life decisions I have made that would make someone immediately think of me when they stumble upon old beer, and just acknowledge that yeah, I have a known personality trait. Also, cool find and welcome additions to the collection. It was a tad serendipitous I was at a … Continue reading Nostalgic Debauchery And The Neighbors Who Get Me

Sturgill Simpson’s Fire & Fury: A New Way To Consume Art, And I’m On Board

Billed as a visual album, country rocker Sturgill Simpson released last week what I hope becomes an actual thing going forward. Part anime, part new album, all kickass, Sound & Fury is just a fun, new way to do things. That Sturgill took the leap is not a surprise at all. The dude gives zero shits what most of us mere mortals think. And I love him for that. Pigeon-hole this man at your own peril. The film follows an inscrutable samurai driver on a path to a showdown with the big bads of a post-apocalyptic world. With a skater … Continue reading Sturgill Simpson’s Fire & Fury: A New Way To Consume Art, And I’m On Board

Lady Mules Win Twice In Conference Play This Week

They did not play their sharpest game of the year, but an off night for the Fairfield Lady Mules is still good enough for a 25-12, 25-19 home conference win over Eldorado Thursday night. That was the second BDC win of the week for Chet Snyder’s squad, after they beat Hamilton County Tuesday on the road, 25-14, 25-11. Coming into the year, the Lady Foxes were thought to be the toughest challenge within conference play for Fairfield. On Thursday, Fairfield jumped out to an 8-1 lead, with Chloe Britton serving seven straight points. In that surge, Britton had two aces, … Continue reading Lady Mules Win Twice In Conference Play This Week
