Lady Mules Win Twice In Conference Play This Week

They did not play their sharpest game of the year, but an off night for the Fairfield Lady Mules is still good enough for a 25-12, 25-19 home conference win over Eldorado Thursday night.

That was the second BDC win of the week for Chet Snyder’s squad, after they beat Hamilton County Tuesday on the road, 25-14, 25-11. Coming into the year, the Lady Foxes were thought to be the toughest challenge within conference play for Fairfield.

On Thursday, Fairfield jumped out to an 8-1 lead, with Chloe Britton serving seven straight points. In that surge, Britton had two aces, Jacklyn Simms had three kills and Callie Vaughan added a kill as well.

Simms had two more kills to put Fairfield up 10-2. The Lady Eagles got within six at 10-4 but then the Mule gals ripped off four more in a row, including kills by Makana Reid and Vaughan, and another ace by Simms.

Fairfield led by 12 at 23-11 and then took their biggest lead of the set on the final point, an ace by Simms for a 13-point win.

In the second set, Fairfield again jumped out to a big lead, with an 8-2 advantage after Lexi Hobbs served a four-point run. Simms served a five-point surge for a 13-4 lead, but then the Lady Mules took their foot off the gas.

Eldorado followed with a 9-4 run to get back within four, despite not having a kill in that stretch. Fairfield scored four in a row but then gave up a 6-2 run to still only lead by four. Britton helped end the night, however, when she put down two straight kills to push Fairfield to 25. The Eagles scored 19 points in the set with just one kill.

Fairfield was playing the game without both middle hitter Nadia Reid, on a college visit; and Colbie Sutton, still out with a hip/low back injury.

The Lady Mules (19-1) are at Mt. Carmel Monday and then at Carmi Tuesday. They continue the road trip Thursday at Edwards County.
