FCHS Mules Basketball Pics

I’ve been asked how to see all my basketball pics from this season. When I was at the Wayne County Press, I always posted them on their website. I don’t have access to that now that I’m a part-timer. So, what I have decided is to wait until they have run in the paper before posting them up here near the end of the season. It is my compromise for getting them out to people, while also saying buy a damn paper. So, here is a giant gallery of boys photos from this year. I’m working on doing the same … Continue reading FCHS Mules Basketball Pics

A Streak Is Coming To An End

I moved to Fairfield in 2005, making this my 15th football season covering the Mules. I have never missed a varsity game. Not one. Until next week. I have a trip taking me out of the state this week. I have had the pleasure of watching 98 wins in that span. Some classic games, some fun moments, some great kids. I’ve seen three playoff wins. It was the third one today that makes me glad my streak is ending. Because it means the season continues without me for another week for a fun team who has put in the work. … Continue reading A Streak Is Coming To An End

Where Are The Mules?

When I left the Wayne County Press, I still wanted to be a part of the local sports community. Maybe I even needed it. So, when I decided to use this blog as an outlet for my writing, it was easy to add the Mules coverage to my random other musings and addictions. So, all fall, I covered the Mules whenever I could, moving on from the paper. I have enjoyed the new outlet. It has allowed me to do some new things, and frankly, reach a wider audience. Then, on Monday, the young man who replaced me at the … Continue reading Where Are The Mules?

Mules Finish BDC Play 9-0 For Third Straight Year; Draw Alton Marquette In Playoffs

Facing their toughest challenge yet in their final regular season game, Justin Townsend’s Fairfield Mules finished off their third straight undefeated regular season with a 35-13 win at the rival Eldorado Eagles. The final score looks like a blowout, but the Eagles led early and ran the ball right at the Mule defense with success, but a fumble, a short punt and fourth down conversion rate proved costly for the Eagles. They were 0-for-3 on fourth down attempts, after going 5-of-9 on third down. The Mules were stellar in converting, going 6-of-8 on third down and 2-for-2 on fourth on … Continue reading Mules Finish BDC Play 9-0 For Third Straight Year; Draw Alton Marquette In Playoffs

Lady Mules Return To Site Of Upset Two Years Later, Avoid Trap Game With Cisne

Two years ago, the Fairfield Lady Mules were upset in the Lions Den in Cisne near the end of the season. With that game in the back of their mind, Chet Snyder’s Lady Mules did avoided the trap following Tuesday’s big game in NCOE, and handled Leslie Cordill’s Lions, 25-17, 25-9. Cisne, who entered with a 19-10 record, did not look intimidated by the 28-1 Lady Mules early on. They went toe-to-toe with them for 36 points, giving them their best shot and trailing just 19-17. Fairfield scored the last six points of the first set, however, and like a … Continue reading Lady Mules Return To Site Of Upset Two Years Later, Avoid Trap Game With Cisne

Lady Mules Win Clash With Cards In Battle Of One-Loss Teams

In one of the most anticipated regular season matchups in FCHS volleyball history, Chet Snyder’s one-loss Fairfield Lady Mules knocked off Jaclyn Melton’s one-loss NCOE Cardinals Tuesday, 25-21, 25-23. The two powerhouse squads came into the clash with a combined 57-2 record, and one of those losses was an NCOE loss to Fairfield in the championship of the Fairfield Tournament to open the volleyball season. The matchup in the bowl in Norris City brought with it a hostile environment that a coaching hoping for a test would be envious of, and Snyder’s Mule gals responded by leading both sets almost … Continue reading Lady Mules Win Clash With Cards In Battle Of One-Loss Teams
