Mike Trout Watch: HOF WAR

One of the things I like to do every year near baseball’s opening day is take a look at where Angels outfielder Mike Trout is on the career WAR list (Baseball-Reference). He currently sits at 76.1. Trout is coming off an injury year, which combined with the shortened 2020 means he has “only” added 3.6 WAR over the last two seasons. Before that, his worst year was 6.9. So, last year, Trout passed Hall-of-Famers Paul Molitor, Old Hoss Radbourn and Sam Crawford. Up next in the pecking order, among hall-of-famers. These are all within reach with an Average Trout year. … Continue reading Mike Trout Watch: HOF WAR

Dunk City, Nine Years Ago Today

It was nine years ago today the world met Dunk City. 2013. Florida Gulf Coast University took the world by storm in the first two rounds of March Madness, knocking off Georgetown and San Diego St. as a 15-seed. And they did it in electrifying fashion. This year’s Sweet 16 has another 15-seed in the St. Peter’s Peacocks, but they did it in an entirely different fashion. Because very few could match Dunk City’s high-flying act. Seriously. Someone made a clip of all the dunks, because the internet is undefeated. Yes, I just watched it twice. You should too. I … Continue reading Dunk City, Nine Years Ago Today

This Is (March) Madness

I sit here staring at spreadsheets, brackets, survivor strategies…all of it. I’ve been on a nonstop podcast binge of nothing but college basketball and gambling. All listened to at 2x speed. I’m the guy who can tell you the exact expected win percentages of every team in the NCAA men’s bracket, for every round, based off an algorithm using both advanced analytics and human polling, factoring in travel distance even. I’m the guy who can tell you the point spread, within a point or two, of just about every potential matchup before the spreads are released. I’m the guy who … Continue reading This Is (March) Madness

College Basketball Power Ratings

With conference tournament weekends in full swing, I’m finally getting to some power ratings for men’s college basketball. To recap, the are spread equalized. So to figure a spread, subtract one team’s power rating from the another and then adjust for any home court, which won’t be often from this point on. Starting with a top 40 today. I will circle back around next week with an update for the tournament field. 1 Gonzaga Zags 100.0 2 Arizona Wildcats 95.1 3 Kentucky Wildcats 95.1 4 Houston Cougars 94.3 5 Duke Blue Devils 94.1 6 Baylor Bears 94.1 7 Iowa Hawkeyes … Continue reading College Basketball Power Ratings

Super Bowl Bets

I’m starting to lock in some of my Super Bowls, so I figured it was a good time to start this thread. I always put my picks into the Action Network app for all sports, but figured the Super Bowl was worth a seperate blog post as well. So, happy hunting. Futures Bet Rams +210. Made this bet before the semifinals. This was a free bet max bet, so nothing lost if they lose. Total U10 1Q -170. Super Bowls tend to start slow, but 10 is a key number, so I took the juiced up number here. There are … Continue reading Super Bowl Bets

NFL Futures Check

We have just a couple of weeks to go in the regular season, so I am taking a look at my NFL Futures bets to see where i stand. Colts o8.5 wins hit. At 9-6 already. Broncos u10.5 hit. 8 losses already. Texans AFC South 14/1 is dead. Took this week 1 or 2, just in case that division turned out to be trash. And no, I can’t recall what the hell I was thinking. Chiefs SB 5/1 + ML Bonus: already in plus money. This was a $50 max bet, with $5 paid back for each regular season win. … Continue reading NFL Futures Check
