WIth five runners in the top 15, Justin Sanders’ Fairfield Mules won the Lawrenceville Invitational Saturday. The Mules finished with 35 points, followed by the host Indians in second with 45. Paris was third at 58 and Dieterich was fourth with 77. Five other teams had runners, but not a full team. Casey-Westfield’s Cort Ross won the boys’ race in 16 minutes, 2 seconds. Sometimes, stingy can be a positive. Case in point, the Fairfield Mules’ defense. For the third straight week to open the season, Justin Townsend’s Mules did not allow a point and the Mule Train kept rolling with a 36-0 road win in Chester. Fairfield moved to 3-0 with the win. Traveling to Olney for nonconference action Thursday, the freshman Fairfield Mules football squad moved to 2-0 with a 28-14 triumph over the Tigers of Richland County. Fairfield scored the first 22 points of the game, holding the host offense in check until late in the third quarter. Lady Mules Tennis Takes Fifth In Robinson Tournament

The Fairfield Lady Mules traveled to Robinson Saturday for tennis tournament action, finishing fifth out of eight teams, with a unique scoring system for the day of play. Each of the eight teams, which included two jayvee squads, had four entries each—two singles and two doubles teams. Each team played 196 games and received one point for each win. Host Robinson won with 153 points, followed by: Newton 133, Paris 113, Centralia 105, Fairfield 90, Charleston 85, Paris JV 61, and Robinson JV 45. Lady Mules Advance To Gold, Finish Third In Casey Invitational

Advancing to the Gold Flight for the first time since joining the Casey-Westfield Invitational, the Fairfield Lady Mules suffered their first loss of the year but bounced back to claim the third-place trophy in the always difficult early-season tournament. Pool Play Fairfield went 3-0 in pool play, starting with two straight sets wins. They beat the Salt Fork Storm, 25-12, 25-14. The Fairfield Mules gold squad returned to Olney Friday for the Olney Invitational, and finished seventh as a team in the 12-team field. Carmi won the match with a team score of 330, edging Sullivan in second with a 332. Host Olney shot a 344 to tie Paris for third. Carmi’s Ty Barbre shot a 76 to take top individual honors. Fairfield was led by Maverick Conrad, who shot an 80. Noah McElravy shot an 88, Jacob Britt shot a 102 and Noah Barger shot a 105 for the team total. Winning twice in singles action and twice in doubles action, the Fairfield Lady Mules suffered a 5-4 loss to the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces tennis team Thursday. Mt.
