The Fairfield Mules gold squad returned to Olney Friday for the Olney Invitational, and finished seventh as a team in the 12-team field. Carmi won the match with a team score of 330, edging Sullivan in second with a 332. Host Olney shot a 344 to tie Paris for third. Carmi’s Ty Barbre shot a 76 to take top individual honors. Fairfield was led by Maverick Conrad, who shot an 80. Noah McElravy shot an 88, Jacob Britt shot a 102 and Noah Barger shot a 105 for the team total. The Fairfield Mules picked up another duel golf win Tuesday afternoon, beating the host Mt.  Carmel Aces, 178-183. Junior Noah McElravy tied for medalist honors, shooting a 40 on the par-35 front nine. He tied Mt. Carmel’s Clayton Halbig for the low score on the day. McElravy had bogeys on six straight holes, two through seven, before sinking a birdie on eight. He shot par on holes one and nine. Maverick Conrad shot a 44 to finish second on the Mules, while Chase Hallam and Jacob Britt each shot 47 to round out the team score. Competing in Olney Wednesday, Coach Brent Sutton’s Fairfield Mules finished third as a team in the four-team match, while senior Maverick Conrad finished in a three-way tie for low score on the day. Conrad tied Charleston’s Taylor Drake and Richland County’s Mitchell Tolliver with a 39. Drake hit a triple bogey on the first hole, but shot pars on seven of the eight other holes. Conrad avoided any disastrous holes, shooting bogeys on holes three, four, six and eight, with pars on the other five holes. The Fairfield Mules won a four-team match in McLeansboro Monday, nipping the host Hamilton County Foxes on a tiebreaker. The top four for each squad combined for a 177 team score, but the Mules had five golfers shoot 50 or below to win the tiebreaker by five strokes. The Mt. Carmel Aces finished third with 179 strokes and Christ Our Rock Lutheran was fourth with 211. Fairfield’s Noah McElravy was medalist on the day, shooting a 40.
