In a rematch of a week nine clash last year to decide the conference championship, the Fairfield Mules opened up the season this year with a defensive display of power Friday night at the Train Yard, shutting out the Sesser-Valier-Waltonville Red Devils, 28-0. The defense held Sesser to four total first downs, and just 85 yards of offense. Townsend’s Mules Have Eyes On Multiple Prizes After 10-1 Season

by Weez Football Fridays in Fairfield have been fun for the Mules in recent years, having won three straight conference championships and riding a 20-game regular-season winning streak. That success even carried over into the playoffs last year, with an overtime win over Newton in the first round. Last year’s seniors graduated with the most wins in a three-year span at FCHS, going from eight to nine to 10 in their varsity career. Smashy Smashy Ball Is 15 Days Away

The Illinois high school football season is just 15 days away. The Mules, coming off a 10-1 season and back-to-back undefeated regular seasons open with a home game against the Sesser-Valier Red Devils. Evening practices are underway for Coach Justin Townsend and the Fairfield gridiron gang. It was also a good time for Wabash General Hospital Athletic Trainer Sarah Turner, who has a ridiculously good looking husband, to review proper equipment removal in case of a spinal injury with the local medical staffs and JFL admins.
