Smoked Brats, Ribeyes

Fired up the smoker tonight to cook some homemade brats and went ahead and cooked a couple ribeyes as well. Brats will be for later in the week, as the ribeyes were for tonight. Smoked the steak to 130, and then finished them off by searing them in bacon grease in the cast iron. I’m normally a simple S&P man for my steaks, but went a little different for these, using a grill rub from a chocolate place in St. Louis. Finished it all off with corn on the cob, mashed cauliflower and a glass of whiskey from a bottle … Continue reading Smoked Brats, Ribeyes

College Football, Week 1, Thursday Slate

Well, week 0 did not disappoint, with two fun games. Hawaii pulled off the double-digit upset in week 0 for the second straight year, despite four interceptions and benching their starting quarterback. And that all came after Miami covered against Florida in a low-scoring affair, something we warned of. My projections wound up splitting against the spread. Week one brings our first Thursday games. I kind of like Texas State to backdoor cover in a game more important to them than Texas A&M. I like UCLA to be improved in year two of Chip Kelly and think that game is … Continue reading College Football, Week 1, Thursday Slate

College Football Week 0 Spreads

College football is back tonight, sort of. No matter what Jon Bois says. There are just two games on the docket to wet our appetite–Miami vs. Florida in Orlando and Arizona at Hawaii. Week 0 Away Home HFA IAW Spread Vegas Miami 19.91 Florida 11.26 0 -8.65 -7 Arizona 25.04 Hawaii 36.79 1.02 10.73 11 My rating likes Florida to cover, but that number has dropped from 7.5 to 7 in correlation with the total dropping from 50.5 all the way to 46. Some of that total drop is Miami making a QB move, but the majority of it is … Continue reading College Football Week 0 Spreads

Meet The Mules–Fall Edition

Fairfield Community High School held its annual Meet The Mules festivities Friday night, giving local sports fans their first looks at the 2019 squads. Players from football, volleyball, girls tennis, golf and cross country were all introduced, with the volleyball and football squads providing short scrimmages for fans to get familiar with the teams. Both football and volleyball are coming off record-breaking seasons last year, with both setting school marks for wins. The football squad scrimmaged first, utilizing the practice field as the game field was resodded in the spring and still wet from rain earlier in the week. The … Continue reading Meet The Mules–Fall Edition

ACC Football Spread Predictions

Here are the predicted spreads for every ACC football game, based on my preseason power ratings. In the Atlantic, national frontrunner looks like they will be a two-touchdown favorite in every regular season game of the year, and would be as well in any version of an ACC championship. The race is for second, where I have Florida State regrouping in Willie Taggert’s second year. Over in the Coastal Division, Miami hosts Virginia Tech in week five and Virginia in week six, giving them a slight edge in the conference race. Those are the next two teams in my power … Continue reading ACC Football Spread Predictions

Concert Review: American Aquarium

American Aquarium returned to Off Broadway in St. Louis Monday night. Being a school night, the show did not sell out, but the room was full, and the energy on the stage was still high. A few years ago, I made the prediction lead singer BJ Barham was about to “Isbell the shit out of sobriety”. He just celebrated five years sober recently. And I am happy to report I was not wrong. The song writing has gone to another level, much like Jason’s did when he cleaned up. BJ can’t match Isbell’s vocals, what i call the soaring and … Continue reading Concert Review: American Aquarium
