Interesting Air: Five Songs To Make You A Fan Of American Aquarium

American Aquarium is playing at Off Broadway in St. Louis tonight. One of my favorite bands in my favorite concert bar in St. Louis, so yeah, I’ll be there tonight. American Aquarium is a band I feel like I kind of grew up with. Not in childhood grew up, but in maturity and life phases grew up. Lead singer BJ Barnham has undergone a transformation of sorts in his career. When BJ the songwriter was partying, I was partying. And I say “as the songwriter” to not be too presumptive, but a good chunk of his music does come across … Continue reading Interesting Air: Five Songs To Make You A Fan Of American Aquarium

Let’s Get Reel: Hobbs & Shaw

It took me a couple weeks, but finally made it to Hobbs and Shaw, the latest installment in the Fast & Furious series, whis is the best documentary series this side of Ken Burns’ Baseball and Step Up 2-5. This movie is, well, what you would expect it to be. Banter between two charismatic badasses, ridiculous hijinx at fast speeds and a kickass baddie, this time played by Idris Elba. Seriously, when are we going to get Elba as Bond? I’ve wanted few things in the movie world more than I want Elba as Bond. Hobbs & Shaw spins off … Continue reading Let’s Get Reel: Hobbs & Shaw

The Re-Election Economy

It’s not news that President Trump has had historically poor performance approval rates, running pretty consistently at net negative-10. That is despite overall good scores on the economy, where he scores a net positive-10. The argument could easily be made that poor approval rate would be catastrophically bad if those approval rates on the economy dipped. Which lends to the point that the biggest threat to the 2020 re-election campaign is not any of the democrats, but the economy. And there has been volatility in that regard lately, due in part to the continued trade war with China, a trade … Continue reading The Re-Election Economy

Big Ten Football Spreads

Here are my preseason spreads for every Big Ten game, based on my preseason power ratings, in which Illinois in nearly a touchdown favorite four times. They could get to five wins and buy Lovie another year. They should be 3-0 when I make the trek north for the Nebraska game. Let’s hope I don’t tailgate enough I forget I’m suppose to be cheering for the home team. It has happened before. Sorry Clark. And if Michigan does not get Ohio State this year, they probably won’t under Jim Harbaugh. Ohio State has the better schedule, but that season finale … Continue reading Big Ten Football Spreads

SEC Season Spread Projections

With the preseason power ratings out of the way, time to move on to looking at schedules and spreads. Going conference for conference, it only make sense to start with the SEC. This table includes each team’s power rating, the opponent’s power rating, a home-field advantage figure and then the predicted spread for each game based on all of the above. The spread record is not an actual win-loss guess. It just counts games favored as a win and games as an underdog as a loss. There are much more intricate percentage chance of wins formulas that spit out more … Continue reading SEC Season Spread Projections

Smashy Smashy Ball Is 15 Days Away

The Illinois high school football season is just 15 days away. The Mules, coming off a 10-1 season and back-to-back undefeated regular seasons open with a home game against the Sesser-Valier Red Devils. Evening practices are underway for Coach Justin Townsend and the Fairfield gridiron gang. It was also a good time for Wabash General Hospital Athletic Trainer Sarah Turner, who has a ridiculously good looking husband, to review proper equipment removal in case of a spinal injury with the local medical staffs and JFL admins. Shrimp-Pork Yum Yum

Sarah recently got the Core 4 book from Steph Gaudreau. She has started it, I haven’t read through it yet, but we have flipped through the recipes in the back some together. In it she has a nice sounding recipe for a ground pork and chopped shrimp dish rolled into meat balls and baked. I’m not that fancy. I’m more of a cast iron and stir fry guy. So, that is what I did tonight. I stir-fried, mostly using the ingredients she used in her recipe, but without, you know, measuring or worrying about presentation. If this were a movie, … Continue reading Shrimp-Pork Yum Yum

Time For A Plan

5-feet, 6-inches, 265 pounds, 48.5-inch waist. Those are not good numbers. And it is beyond time to do something about it. So, it is time for a plan, and to implement that plan instead of just saying I’ll change and then doing nothing about it. I was doing well until last year. I took a promotion, adding a ton of hours. I quit teaching at the local gym. I got married. I turned 40. I used all of that as excuses. I got into the worst shape of my life. So, I am putting this here in the hopes ya’ll … Continue reading Time For A Plan
