Book Nook: Life Lessons From An Icon

I have written within this here blog before about my penchant for note take as I read. I don’t do it nearly as much when doing audiobooks. Some of that is because I mostly do fiction and biographies for audiobooks, hard cover for nonfiction or educational books. The majority of my audiobook consumption is done while doing by morning walks. A chapter a day does a pretty good job of occupying that 1.5-mile walk to start a day. Well, I recently did a biography that had me stopping during my walks and typing out quick emails to myself, my version … Continue reading Book Nook: Life Lessons From An Icon

DraftKings Lineup Week 5

Here is what I’m playing this week. Reminder, I play mostly cash games. There are three games with a Vegas total of 54 or higher this week, so much of this week’s success is going to be picking the correct one of those three to stack in all likelihood. QB Patrick Mahomes vs. Raiders $7,700 RB Josh Jacobs vs. Chiefs $6,300 RB David Johnson vs. Jaguars $5,200 WR Tyreek Hill vs. Raiders $6,900 WR Darius Slayton vs. Cowboys $4,800 WR Brandin Cooks vs. Jaguars $4,100 TE Darren Waller vs. Raiders $5,900 FLEX Kareem Hunt vs. Colts $6,500 DEF Texans vs. … Continue reading DraftKings Lineup Week 5

NFL Draft Kings Week 4

Here is what I’m playing this week. Again, I play mostly cash lineups. Adjust accordingly if you are playing GPP. A fair amount of chalk here with Kamara and Metcalf. Fitzpatrick will probably be more of a GPP play, so playing him in cash might be a little bit of a differentiation. Kamara is still the best RB in football, although I do expect Dallas to force the ball to Zeke for narrative reasons. I decided to go with OBJ in that game. He has been just disappointing enough to start the year it feels like he is due for … Continue reading NFL Draft Kings Week 4

The Red Mirage and Mail-In Voting

Listened to a podcast tonight on possible scenarios around mail-in voting come this November, and they mentioned the idea of the Red Mirage. In an election where mail-in voting will shatter records due to the Covid situation, states and media members are both struggling with how to handle Election Night and the calling of races. In 2016, mail-voting was not slanted quite so much to one party or the other. Donald Trump actually had more mail-in ballots in Florida than Hillary Clinton did. But since then, Trump the his followers have railed against the practice. Couple that with liberals taking … Continue reading The Red Mirage and Mail-In Voting

My Favorite A’s

With the passing of Bob Gibson, Will Leitch, most famous for being from Mattoon, put together his list of his all-time favorite St. Louis Cardinals. He had Gibson at number one. Not a surprise for men of my age or slightly older. Surprisingly, Rick Ankiel was number two on his list. He admitted it was Gibson and then no one was close for number two. Seeing the list, however, got me thinking about my favorite Oakland Athletics. My list is similar. It is Rickey Henderson and then every one else. Still. Putting in as little thought as possible, here is … Continue reading My Favorite A’s
