Finally, The Weez Has Returned…

I had an extended vacation as a kid in California. Ever since, I have had this picture in my head. Remember, nostalgia is undefeated. But, other than a stop over at LAX, I never made it back. Until this week. We flew from St. Louis to San Diego, working our way up the congested I-5 to Anaheim. The first stop was Lucha Libre Taco Shop, just outside of the San Diego airport. Anyone who has seen my VHS collection of lucha libre gets why this was a must stop for me. Plus, solid tacos. Plus, some cool decor. And all … Continue reading Finally, The Weez Has Returned…

Interesting Air: Playlist of the Week–Going Back To Cali

I’ve been kicking around the idea of posting one playlist a week to supplement the Friday music posts. With a trip to California on deck and my weekly Friday post in jeopardy due to that trip, I decided now is as good a time as ever. The playlist is the modern blogger’s version of the mixtape. And yeah, I was the kid with blank cassettes trying to time the record button to the radio, hoping the DJ didn’t talk over the intro. Most weeks will be a Spotify list. That is the majority of my music consumption. I may experiment … Continue reading Interesting Air: Playlist of the Week–Going Back To Cali

Will Leitch Weighs In On Deadspin

Having gone to school at Eastern Illinois University in the late 90s, early 2000s, and working sports for the local Charleston radio station, Will Leitch popped up on my radar early in his career. Before “the break” with Deadspin. We orbited the same circles at just slightly different paths in Coles County. Will had ambition and pursued it. He caught his break nationally in 2005. That was the same year I found my home covering local sports here in Fairfield, after working for three radio stations, a TV station and my hometown paper for a spell throughout college and shortly … Continue reading Will Leitch Weighs In On Deadspin

A Streak Is Coming To An End

I moved to Fairfield in 2005, making this my 15th football season covering the Mules. I have never missed a varsity game. Not one. Until next week. I have a trip taking me out of the state this week. I have had the pleasure of watching 98 wins in that span. Some classic games, some fun moments, some great kids. I’ve seen three playoff wins. It was the third one today that makes me glad my streak is ending. Because it means the season continues without me for another week for a fun team who has put in the work. … Continue reading A Streak Is Coming To An End

Where Are The Mules?

When I left the Wayne County Press, I still wanted to be a part of the local sports community. Maybe I even needed it. So, when I decided to use this blog as an outlet for my writing, it was easy to add the Mules coverage to my random other musings and addictions. So, all fall, I covered the Mules whenever I could, moving on from the paper. I have enjoyed the new outlet. It has allowed me to do some new things, and frankly, reach a wider audience. Then, on Monday, the young man who replaced me at the … Continue reading Where Are The Mules?

College Football Spreads Week 10

Here are this week’s college football lines vs. the Vegas lines. The big match up of course is Georgia vs. Florida. This line has been moving this week, so chances are you could find a number you like for either team. I have Georgia at -4.8. In Washington vs. Utah, the Utes are three point favorites, and I have that game at just a 1.5-point difference. The other top 25 match up is SMU at Memphis, where I have the Mustangs covering. Away Home IAW Vegas West Virginia Baylor -19.9 -18.5 Georgia Southern App St. -15.8 -15 Navy UConn 25.5 … Continue reading College Football Spreads Week 10
