College Football Spread Prediction Week 6

We had a really good week here last week, going 32-16 against the spread, which brings us to 130-100 overall for the year, good for a 56.2 percent clip on the year. Last week’s pace is obviously not sustainable, but if we can keep that season-long percent above 55 percent, we are golden. Here are this week’s IAW spreads. I don’t remember ever having a week with this many road favorites. College Football Power Ratings Week 6

We have a shakeup near the top this week. It was time to move Ohio State ahead of Clemson. The Tigers are still very, very good, but the elite play just hasn’t been there. This is a reflection of the performance, not the talent, however. Alabama has become the undisputed number one, with Clemson joining a tight pack of four others vying for 3-6. Rank Team RTG 1 Alabama 0.0 2 Ohio State 2.2 3 Clemson 4.6 4 Oklahoma 5.7 5 Georgia 5.8 6 LSU 6.3 7 Auburn 10.2 8 Wisconsin 11.3 9 Penn State 11.8 10 Oregon 12.6 11 … Continue reading College Football Power Ratings Week 6

College Football Week 5 Spreads

After going 28-20, the IAW projections are now 98-84 (53.9 percent). In the interest of cleaning this up on mobile browsers, I have removed the ratings and home field advantage from this post. Ratings can be found here. There is only one ranked vs. ranked matchup this week: Virginia at Notre Dame. Vegas has the line at 12.5, with is pretty much identical to my 12.7. I really thought Georgia would handle Notre Dame easily last week due to the size matchup up front. That did not happen. These are two teams that are pretty much what we thought they … Continue reading College Football Week 5 Spreads

College Football Power Ratings Week 5

Here are the IAW power ratings, heading into week five of college football. Michigan takes a tumble all the way to 15, Ohio State overtakes Georgia and the rest keep on ticking, mostly. The biggest tumbler this week is Houston, after the redshirt shenanigans this week, including quarterback D’eriq King. Rank Team Rating 1 Alabama 0.0 2 Clemson 1.8 3 Ohio State 4.6 4 Georgia 6.1 5 LSU 6.4 6 Oklahoma 7.6 7 Wisconsin 10.1 8 Auburn 12.1 9 Notre Dame 13.0 10 Oregon 13.3 11 Florida 14.2 12 Penn State 15.0 13 Washington 15.6 14 Texas A&M 16.2 15 … Continue reading College Football Power Ratings Week 5

Instant Classic: Houston-Tulane

There was a beautiful football game to watch last night. No, not the Minshew Mania Bowl, although that can be a different type of fun, because the Minshew Mustache Mafia is going to be a thing if I have anything to do with it. No, the Houston-Tulane game over on ESPN was much more entertaining, despite Houston trucking Tulane early and going up 28-7. I tuned into this one mostly because Houston quarter D’eriq King reminds me of Antwaan Randle El, Indiana’s greatest football player of my time. Tulane had never come back from more than 14 points down in … Continue reading Instant Classic: Houston-Tulane

College Football Power Ratings Week 4

Here are my power ratings heading into the week four matchups. Ohio State is the big mover among the top 10 so far this year. I have them nearly 3 1/2 points better than my preseason rating. The other top gainer still is Wisconsin, who had moved up to number eight, despite admittedly a week schedule to start the year. That changes this week. Rank Team RTG 1 Alabama 0.0 2 Clemson 1.7 3 Georgia 5.4 4 LSU 7.5 5 Ohio State 7.7 6 Oklahoma 8.6 7 Auburn 12.6 8 Wisconsin 12.7 9 Notre Dame 13.0 10 Texas A&M 14.5 … Continue reading College Football Power Ratings Week 4

Eastern Michigan, Really?

Eight point favorites at home, and they lost to Eastern Michigan. This is such an Illini thing to do. Eight-point road dogs winning are not exactly rare, but this one will almost assuredly shake things up. When I started my new job, I had to go back to using a Windows laptop. That also meant moving on from the far superior Macbook Pro trackpad and going back to a mouse. I haven’t used a mouse since 2012. I also use a glass-top bar for my desk, so I had to borrow a mouse pad from my coworker. I’ve used it … Continue reading Eastern Michigan, Really?

This Week in WTF Box Scores

I scroll through box scores on occasion, looking for the weird and not repeatable. It helps to spot the outliers. One of my bets this week was Michigan State -14 vs Arizona State. They lost in heartbreaking fashion, making a game-thing FG before penalty negated it and then missed the retry. But it never should have been a game. The Spartans nearly doubled up ASU in yardage. They ran 22 more plays. They averaged 1.3 yards more per play. And scored seven points. ASU had a total of two scoring opportunities, and won. This gets an official WTF box score. College Football Week 3 Spreads

Last week, the system managed to go 25-19, despite a 1-9 start on Saturday’s games. That moves us to 47-43 overall. This week’s spreads are late to post, But I promise they were completed before the Friday games last night. I was 1-2 on those three anyway, with no bets on any of the three.
