Kaizen: April 13-19, 2020

When I started my new training log book, I called it Ton of Fun, because one of my goals was a six-lift (squat, bench, clean, deadlift, press, snatch) of 2,000 pounds. When I started this latest journey, it was 1285. When you consider I have totalled more than 1,500 in a three-lift powerlift (squat, bench, deadlift), you start to understand some of the life choices I have made over the years. However, this week, I just changed the name to Kaizen, japanese for the concept of continuous improvement. It’s nothing original in the fitness world to adapt this word. Katrin … Continue reading Kaizen: April 13-19, 2020

The Book Nook–Dottir

My Journey To Becoming A Two-Time CrossFit Games Champion, by Katrin Davidsdottir Katrin Davidsdottir has been to the top of the mountain within her world, twice. As a two-time CrossFit Games champion, and a member of the Dottirs with Annie Thorsdottir and Sara Sigmundsdottir, her name is synonymous with badass females within the fitness world. My attention span with the Games had waned by the time Katrin had ascended to the top, so I was only tangentially aware of her story. Still, I followed her on Instagram, and saw her post about her autobiography. I decided to buy it. Admittedly, … Continue reading The Book Nook–Dottir

Covid-19? More Like CoFit-19

I’m part of a health and fitness Facebook group my friend Kathy Book started a while back. It is a good community, full of recipes, workouts, interesting articles, questions, community, encouragement, and all that razzmajazz that helps one stay on the right path. Earlier today, Kathy posed the question–What is in your Coronovirus workout playlist? Well, my inner nerddom alarm started blaring. Music plus working out, with a theme? Yep, I’m in. I quickly thought of about 10 in the first 30 seconds. I started to post some videos in her post, but quickly knew “Weez, this needs to be … Continue reading Covid-19? More Like CoFit-19

So…about that fitness plan: What I've been up to this year.

A few months ago, I posted my fitness intentions on this blog. I started walking regularly, and working out again. And then I got derailed by a six-week gout flareup. My activity level was damn near negligible for a while. However, I set down in late December and formulated a new plan, finally feeling healthy again. I didn’t post about it then, but by and large, my plan has been working for me. I’ve dropped a little weight, I’m sleeping much better and I’m moving easier too. I still have a long way to go, but there has finally been … Continue reading So…about that fitness plan: What I've been up to this year.

Time For A Plan

5-feet, 6-inches, 265 pounds, 48.5-inch waist. Those are not good numbers. And it is beyond time to do something about it. So, it is time for a plan, and to implement that plan instead of just saying I’ll change and then doing nothing about it. I was doing well until last year. I took a promotion, adding a ton of hours. I quit teaching at the local gym. I got married. I turned 40. I used all of that as excuses. I got into the worst shape of my life. So, I am putting this here in the hopes ya’ll … Continue reading Time For A Plan
