NFL Confidence Pools/Survivor Pick

Here are the confidence pool rankings for this week’s NFL slate. The one ranking I am a little leery of is New Orleans at home against Tampa. The Bucs have been the better team, but I’m sticking with the Saints on this only because the defense/home field. 15 New England 14 at Philadelphia 13 at Kansas City 12 at LA Chargers 11 Chicago 10 Minnesota 9 at Houston 8 at Carolina 7 at San Francisco 6 Baltimore 5 at Dallas 4 at Cincinnati 3 at New Orleans 2 at Tennessee 1 at Seattle Lot of folks got knocked out in … Continue reading NFL Confidence Pools/Survivor Pick

College Football Spread Prediction Week 6

We had a really good week here last week, going 32-16 against the spread, which brings us to 130-100 overall for the year, good for a 56.2 percent clip on the year. Last week’s pace is obviously not sustainable, but if we can keep that season-long percent above 55 percent, we are golden. Here are this week’s IAW spreads. I don’t remember ever having a week with this many road favorites. Away Home IAW Vegas Georgia So S Alabama 12.9 10 Temple E Carolina 12.3 11.5 UCF Cincinnati 4.5 4 San Jose St New Mexico 2.7 -6.5 S Florida Connecticut … Continue reading College Football Spread Prediction Week 6

College Football Power Ratings Week 6

We have a shakeup near the top this week. It was time to move Ohio State ahead of Clemson. The Tigers are still very, very good, but the elite play just hasn’t been there. This is a reflection of the performance, not the talent, however. Alabama has become the undisputed number one, with Clemson joining a tight pack of four others vying for 3-6. Rank Team RTG 1 Alabama 0.0 2 Ohio State 2.2 3 Clemson 4.6 4 Oklahoma 5.7 5 Georgia 5.8 6 LSU 6.3 7 Auburn 10.2 8 Wisconsin 11.3 9 Penn State 11.8 10 Oregon 12.6 11 … Continue reading College Football Power Ratings Week 6

Back In The Kitchen, Where I Belong

My wife likes to joke that I lured her in with my cooking. At least, I think she is joking. I use to cook quite often. But a promotion last year ate up a lot of free time (which led to eating out more often). This happened right before we got married. She stepped up, cooking more often than I did for the first year of our marriage. It wasn’t like that before we got married. Now that I’m free more evenings, I’m trying to step my game up once again. So, that means, hopefully, you will be seeing more … Continue reading Back In The Kitchen, Where I Belong

Nostalgic Debauchery And The Neighbors Who Get Me

So I was sitting up at the Illinois-Nebraska tailgate last week when I got a text from a neighbor. He was in a relative’s garage and found some old beer cans. He said they made him think of me and wanted to know if I was interested in them. Let’s gloss over life decisions I have made that would make someone immediately think of me when they stumble upon old beer, and just acknowledge that yeah, I have a known personality trait. Also, cool find and welcome additions to the collection. It was a tad serendipitous I was at a … Continue reading Nostalgic Debauchery And The Neighbors Who Get Me

Interesting Air: Tyler Childers At Red Rocks Livestream Tonight

Plan your afternoon naps accordingly today. Tyler Childers is live streaming his concert from the sold out Red Rocks Amphitheater tonight. But, it starts at 9:30 p.m. MST, so 10:30 p.m. where I live. Sturgill Simpson’s Fire & Fury: A New Way To Consume Art, And I’m On Board

Billed as a visual album, country rocker Sturgill Simpson released last week what I hope becomes an actual thing going forward. Part anime, part new album, all kickass, Sound & Fury is just a fun, new way to do things. That Sturgill took the leap is not a surprise at all. The dude gives zero shits what most of us mere mortals think. And I love him for that. Pigeon-hole this man at your own peril. The film follows an inscrutable samurai driver on a path to a showdown with the big bads of a post-apocalyptic world. With a skater … Continue reading Sturgill Simpson’s Fire & Fury: A New Way To Consume Art, And I’m On Board
