Fab Five Friday–Aug. 25, 2023

Here are this week’s five songs worth listening to.

Been a while since I’ve done a Fab Five Friday. But, today seemed like a great day bring it back, with new Zach Bryan and Turnpike Troubadours out today, plus the first Football Friday of the year, let’s go.

Zach Bryan–Fear and Friday’s

I woke up at 3 a.m. today for no damn reason at all, but that does at least mean I’ve listened to the new Zach Bryan album about 5 times already. Most of it is more of a spare sound than the last albu, without going full “a man and a guitar” that the first two were. That being said, this one is a stomper still.

Turnpike Troubadours–Lucille

I have not had a chance to spend too much time with the Troubadours album. Early posts seem to not love the production on this one, but I’m never gonna complain when we get new Turnpike. I still need to spend more time with this one, but this is an early favorite.

Tyler Childers–In Your Love

As if those two albums were not enough to get us through the weekend and more, Tyler dropped a live version of this incredible song today as well. These lyrics are hanging in my kitchen. The original video to go with the song was incredible, but I’ll probably watch this live version going forward. Taking it to another level.

CHIKA & Freddie Gibbs–Truth or Dare

Time for a sharp left turn as my girl CHIKA, one of my favorite hip hop discoveries of the last few years, has a new album. She has some deep, deep stuff on the album, but this is the one I use to lure in people. First one is free, tell your friends.

J. Roddy Walston–Brave Man’s Death

Speaking of Football Friday. This is the one song I listen to every game day. I tend to screamsing this one on the way to the game. Go Mules!

We’ll be back with five more next week. Until then, remember the immortal words…
“Songs are really just interesting things to be doing with the air.” Tom Waits
