I’ve been watching Peaky Blinders of late, so it seemed like a good time to kill of my bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey Caskmates, Stout Edition. Yeah, I know, lengthy freaking name.
This was a bottle given to me a while back, purchased by someone who liked the IPA version but did not love them. I agree. the IPA version was better with it’s hopped up profile.
Still, there is nothing wrong with this bottle for it’s $30 price profile (or $50.90 if you live in Fairfield).
The Stout portion comes from aging Jameson whiskey in barrels previously used by Franciscan Well Brewery to age their stouts.
When most people think Stout, they think roasted malt, but this whiskey takes on more of a fruity sweetness on the taste with a note of coffee creamer, and then some cocoa on the finish.
With all that said, I’d take the Stout edition over regular Jameson, but the IPA version over this. There is enough whiskey out there at similar prices that I’ll probably not circle back around to this one, but if you are a Jameson guy, I would not talk you out of trying this.
