Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are playing the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY on Saturday night. The folks over at Relix are providing a livestream of the show. Showtime 8:15 p.m. central.
Isbell is simply fantastic live. I caught him first eight years ago playing a theater show in Carbondale, minus Sadler. Jason played lead that night and it was then I realized how serious his guitar chops were to go along with the songwriting. That was actually the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
And of course I was in the front, with by buddies BC and Joe. It’s what I do:

I’ve seen Jason a few times since, including a special guest appearance with old band Drive-By Truckers at the Ryman a couple years back. That show somehow managed to highlight a concert week for me that also included The Last Waltz 40th anniversary show and Steve Earle at the City Winery. I’ve tuned into his occasional livestreams when able. I actually haven’t seen him live since The Nashville Sound came out. I love his live version of Last Of My Kind from that album.
Although, at some point soon, we may have to start referring to Jason as Mr. Shires.
So tune in Saturday. I promise it will be worth it. And as always, find a damn show.
