The KenPom Criteria Teams For 2025

I have a few annual traditions the week of March Madness. I kiss my wife goodbye for a few weeks. I compute composite power ratings. I put VSIN on pretty much nonstop. And I figure out who clears the KenPom criteria.

For those who are not familiar, I wrote about it last year here. For a quick refresher, almost exclusively, the national champion each year met all four of the following criteria: a top 21 offense, a top 37 defense, a top 25 overall rating, and a top 45 strength of schedule.

So, without further delay, here is this year’s list.

Eight qualifiers this year, which matches the exact number of qualifiers last year.

There is one glaring team not listed above. Number one overall Duke. They are 3 i offense and 4 in defense. Where they get knocked off is in Strength of Schedule, where they rank just 56th. Their noncon was 21st, but the ACC was bad enough this year to eliminate them from the criteria.

The other one seeds all qualify. Half of the two seeds do as well. Michigan State got dinged for their offense (27th). St. John’s, the last two seed, misses the list for both offense (65th) and schedule (61st). Iowa State and Wisconsin qualify as three seeds, although the Cyclones just announced their second leading scorer will miss the tournament. Arizona is the only four seed or lower to qualify.
