Also on Saturday, I tuned in live to watch the online broadcast of Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, otherwise known as Haftthor (Or The Mountain) attempt to break the world deadlift record. Core Sports broadcast the three attempts. Video clips are in the tweets below.

There will be some who boohoo the use of straps. I personally never use them in training. I want to train my grip. I even double overhook my warm-ups sets just to make them a little bit harder. But, if they are going to let you use them and count the lift, then so be it. I’ve competed in gear and raw. I prefer raw, but I’m not going to belittle anyone for using gear. That third lift also had a slight hitch by some federation standards. Again, if they count it, then that is up to them. They call it good, I call it good. I’ve seen enough pro-am squats 2 inches high to get too upset over that hitch.

Besides, are you going to be the one to tell him?
